MaryJo Price, Special Collections and Reference Librarian at the Ort Library, accomplished a lifetime goal on September 14.
She grew up at Conneaut Lake which is 40 miles south of Erie and slightly west of I-79. It is a glacial lake measuring 3 miles long and 1.5 miles wide and is Pennsylvania's largest natural spring-fed lake with depths of 79 feet. Her sisters swam across the lake when MaryJo was about six.
After participating in Amy Nazelrod's open swim sessions for many years, Justin Anderson invited her to join the FSU swim team. Although not a morning person, her training involved a 5:00 a.m. pool schedule. After weeks of practice and with the assistance of teammate, Jan Burton, MaryJo completed the .47 mile swim to Wolf Island at Conneaut Lake on Monday. When you see her, please congratulate MaryJo.
