New Library Displays for Summer 2019

The following displays will be up through the end of August.

The first display, located on the 3rd floor of the library, celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing. Apollo 11 left Earth on July 16, 1969 and the first person to walk on the moon was Neil Armstrong 4 days later, July 20, 1969. The display highlights information about the moon landing and resources available in the library on the topic.

The second display, located on the 4th floor of the library, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots (Uprising) in NYC. On June 28, 1969 police raided the Stonewall Inn and arrested bar employees and patrons of this gay bar. At the time it was still illegal for gays and lesbians to engage in homosexual behavior in most places in the United States. The display highlights the background of the event, milestones of the Gay Civil Rights movement through 1969, and resources available in the library on the topic.

The third display, located on the 5th floor, celebrates the 100th anniversary since the passage of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. The amendment was ratified 1 year later. The display highlights some of the women who fought for women's suffrage and includes resources available in the library on the topic.

Continuing through the summer: The display located on the 2nd floor of the library, is a remembrance of the 30th Anniversary of Tiananmen Square. The display provides some background and timeline of the event as well as some of the resources the library offers on the topic.
