Banned Books Reading October 2

On October 2 at 7 pm, the Lewis J. Ort Library and FSU's English Honor Society will sponsor a Banned Books Reading.

The theme of this year's Banned Books Week is: Banning Books Silences Stories

The event is free and open to the public and will be held on the 3rd floor of the library.

Banned Books Week 2018 - Banning Books Silences Stories

Banned Books Week 2018 is being celebrated September 23 - 29.

The theme for 2018 is: Banning Books Silences Stories

Please stop by the display on the 3rd floor of the library to see some of the reasons why books are banned/challenged. There are also books available to check out that have been challenged/banned.



The display will be up until the Banned Books Reading on October 2, 2018.

Happy Constitution Day! Visit library for voter registration, Constitution trivia, and free pocket Constitutions!

Join us in celebrating the 231st anniversary of the signing of the US Constitution  (Sept 17, 1787) We will be marking the anniversary by giving out free pocket Constitutions to anybody who visits our Constitution trivia table (Monday from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm).

Volunteers from the Office of Civic Engagement will also be available to help you register to vote. We have an election coming soon, this is your chance to make sure that you're ready for it!


Please also visit our Constitution Day guide at http://libguides.frostburg.edu/constitution. This year, we have added a page featuring the Supreme Court, including links where you can learn more about the nomination of a Supreme Court Justice.

We also have a display located immediately inside the library entrance. This year it features signers of the Constitution from Maryland.

Friday || 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday || Closed
Sunday || 1:00 p.m. to Midnight

Charging Stations and Whiteboards Available for Use

The Lewis J. Ort Library is happy to provide some new items this fall semester for student use.

The first is the availability of 4 charging stations in the library. These charging stations are available on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors. On the 2nd and 3rd floors, they are located on the wall closest to the women's restroom. On the 4th and 5th floor, they are located on the column in the center of the floor. These charging stations allow you to charge your phones.
Please make sure that you are watching your device at all times.

The second is the availability of several new whiteboards. These whiteboards are smaller than the previous whiteboards that were available for student use. These whiteboard are movable around the floors. They should also have erasable markers and erasers available for use. If they are missing markers/erasers, please see the Circulation or Reference desks for assistance.

New Library Displays

The Lewis J. Ort Library is pleased to present 3 new displays for September.

The first display, located on the 3rd floor, provides information on the resources the library offers for students, faculty, and staff. This display is a great introduction to the library for our new students. This display will be up until September 10.

The second display, located on the 4th floor, highlights the incorporation of Google in September 1998. The display highlights the history of the company as well as presents resources the library offers about Google. This display will be up through the end of September.

The third display, located on the 5th floor, highlights the 130th birthday of T.S. Eliot, considered the 20th century's greatest poet. The display highlights his early life and some of the resources the library has on his life. This display will be up through the end of September.
