A display of materials, from the Pealer Collection of Beall Archives on third floor of the Lewis J. Ort Library, celebrates the lifetime of public
service of Woodward D. Pealer.
It includes citations commemorating the dedication of the Woodward D. Pealer Recital Hall on July 9, 1995 and the conferring of an Honorary Doctor of
Human Letters by Frostburg State University on May 16, 2009.
The Woodward D. Pealer Performing Arts Center Naming
Ceremony on June 16, 2017 will recognize the $2.5 million gift to the FSU Foundation
from Pealer’s estate. The Woodward and Virginia Pealer Endowed Fund was established
by Pealer and his wife in 1990. The Endowment supports scholarships and faculty
development at FSU.
When friends and members of the Cumberland community asked
Pealer about his interest in FSU, he explained, “In my opinion the power of education is the most valuable resource we
have to improve ourselves. For this reason, I want to provide financial support
to young people pursuing learning opportunities in educational excellence.”
When Pealer visited campus in 1995, Library Director Dr. David M. Gillespie gave him a personal tour of the Pealer Collection.
