This week’s Featured Online Resource is the Archives of
American Art (http://www.aaa.si.edu/). It
was originally founded by the Detroit Institute of Arts in 1954. In 1970 the
Archives joined the Smithsonian Institution. The holdings of the Archive
includes more than 20 million letters, diaries, and scrapbooks of artist and
collectors; manuscripts of critics; business information of museums and other
entities associated with the art world; photographs; sketches; and audio/video
material. Additionally, the Archives is home to the world’s largest collection
of oral history on the subject of art.
The Archives offers more than 125 collections that are fully
digitized and accessible online. You can browse the list of collections that
are digitized or search the site for topics that you are interested in.
Additionally, many of the oral histories are available in mp3 format so that
you can listen to them online. Finally,
more than 8000 images are digitized and you can search the image gallery on a
specific art topic.
Every
week, the Ort Library brings you a new and outstanding resource from the Web or
from one of the library's databases. To get an archive of all FOR entries,
