Featured Online Resource: Google Scholar

Did you know you can easily search the library's research databases for full-text articles through a familiar user-friendly search engine interface? Google Scholar, this week's Featured Online Resource, indexes full-text scholarly literature across many disciplines and publishing formats.

As you use Google Scholar, "FindIt@Frostburg" links to the Ort Library's full-text content from up to 60 research databases will appear in the right margin of the search results page. Access is easy and automatic to our database articles via Google Scholar when you are on campus, but off campus, you have to take an extra step to get to this password-protected research material: Log in to your FSU library user account or Research Port first, and then start using Google Scholar. You will stay logged in for full access to the library's research articles as long as you keep your Internet browser open.

Even if you find an article listed in Google Scholar that is not available from our library, you can still read its abstract and request it through Interlibrary Loan as a Frostburg State University student, faculty or staff member.

Other things you can do with Google Scholar

  • Explore related works, citations, authors, and publications
  • Keep up with recent developments in your area of research
  • If you're an author, you can check who's citing your publications and create a public author profile
If you aren't a student, faculty or staff member at Frostburg State University but are affiliated with another college or university, explore how Google Scholar interacts with your academic library environment!

Three New Library Displays for April

The Ort Library is pleased to present three new displays for April.

To celebrate National Library Week, held April 14 – 20, 2013, the first display, titled "Highlighting the Variety of Resources in the Library" is available on the 3rd floor (main entrance).  The display highlights the many varieties of resources the library offers: books, DVDs, CDs, records, e-books, and much more.

Did you know that the phrases "Makes your hair stand on end", "So-so", and "In a pickle" were all coined by Shakespeare?  The second display, also located on the 3rd floor (located between the 4 stand-up PCs), was created by Emily Zumbrun.  This display showcases Shakespeare and highlights the many phrases that are now common in the English Language all thanks to Shakespeare.

The last display is located on the 5th floor and celebrates Maryland Archaeology Month.  This year's theme for Maryland Archaeology Month is "Points in Time: Formal Biface Typology in Maryland".  The display highlights some of the projectile points that have been recovered from different Maryland archaeological sites.

The displays will be up through the month of April.

If you have any questions about the displays, please contact Theresa Mastrodonato at ext. 4425 or
tmmastrodonato@frostburg.edu or MaryJo Price at ext. 4889 or mprice@frostburg.edu.
