These are just some of the ideas that are disproved through
the Ort Library’s new exhibit, The Mayan Calendar: Will the World End on
December 21st? For the past several years, there have been those
that put forth the idea of a great catastrophe on December 21, 2012, the end of
the Mayan Long Count Calendar. Many
books and newspaper articles have been written and documentaries have been
created on this subject. This display
will provide information about the Mayan Calendar, the December 21, 2012
prophecy, proof that the world will not end on December 21st, and
share some of the more interesting books written on this topic. The display is available on the 3rd floor of the library (main floor) through December.

NO – solar flares will peak in 2013 not 2012
Will the mysterious planet X (Nibiru) hit the earth on
December 21st?
NO – scientists would see an object the size of a planet heading
our way and we would already be able to see it in the sky (it would be larger
than the moon)
Will a galactic alignment cause the earth’s destruction on

NO – there have been several “galactic alignments” over the past
several years and none have caused the earth’s destruction
