Harry Potter Book Night

Harry Potter aka Oliver Bena was ready for the activities to begin at the Lewis J. Ort Library on the evening of February 8. He was among the 450 young attendees at the Fifth Harry Potter Book Night.

Professor Trelawney aka Professor Sally Stephenson taught Divinations.

The Children's Literature Centre, Ort Library staff and many volunteers shared the fun and excitement of the celebration and encouraged participants to practice the following habit.

MD Public Notice, DHCD Annual Plan, Public Hearings

The Maryland Dept. of Housing and Community Development has announced a series of public hearings to develop its new draft Annual Plan of the State's Consolidated Plan.


In Western Maryland, the meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 26.

March Book Madness Starts Friday 3/1

The 6th Annual March Book Madness begins Friday March 1st.

Be on the lookout for the brackets and information on voting.

Library Displays - February 2019

The Lewis J. Ort Library is pleased to present 3 new displays for February.

The first display, located on the 3rd floor (main floor) celebrates African-American History Month. The theme for this year is Black Migration. This display highlights the migration of African-Americans from the South to the North during the early 20th century. It also provides examples of some of the resources the library offers on this topic.

The second display, located on the 4th floor, celebrates The Harlem Renaissance. This display highlights the history of the movement and provides examples of some of the resources the library offers on this topic.

The third display, located on the 5th floor, celebrates the 125th anniversary of the birth of Norman Rockwell. The display highlights some of his most well-known drawings/paintings and provides examples of some of the resources the library offers on this topic.

The displays will be up through the end of February.
