Three New Library Displays for June

The Ort Library is pleased to present three new displays for June.

The first display, located on the 3^rd floor, is a remembrance of D-Day, June 6, 1944. It highlights many of the different types of resources that the library offers on the history of D-Day, including books, periodicals, posters, and DVDs.

The second display, located on the 3^rd floor, highlights World Oceans Day held on June 8. The display highlights some of the resources the library provides on oceans and also provides information on the Pacific Garbage Patch – the giant floating garbage patch in the Pacific Ocean.

The third display located on the 5^th floor of the library highlights Amusement Parks and their history. It includes information on some of the oldest amusement parks and  roller coasters around the world. It also highlights some of the resources the library offers about amusement parks. This display will be up through August.

The displays on the third floor will be up through the end of June.

Need to Practice a Presentation? Multimedia Presentation Room Available

Need to practice an upcoming group presentation? The Ort Library offers the Multimedia Presentation Room on the 2^nd Floor of the library to assist you with practicing for your presentation.

The Multimedia Presentation Room allows students to practice a presentation utilizing the same equipment you would see in the classrooms on campus. 

The Multimedia Presentation Room is also available for students to watch DVDs  that the library has available. The room is equipped with a large LCD monitor for watching DVDs.

If you have any questions about using the Multimedia Presentation Room, please see a librarian at the Reference Desk or stop by the Media Desk.

Three New Library Displays for May

The Ort Library is pleased to present three new displays for May.

The first display, located on the 3^rd floor, celebrates National Photo Month. The old adage says: One picture is worth a thousand words. Cameras installed on smart phones have made it easier than ever for  people to take photographs. We can keep thousands of pictures on our smart phones and computers. Every day we are inundated with photos on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media sites. This display highlights some of the photography books that the library has in its collection. We are also asking you to share your photographs with us. Send us a Tweet @LibFSU with the hashtag #OrtLibPhotoMonth. We will post some of the pictures in the library near the display. You can also stop by and leave your photo to share with others.

The second display, located on the 3^rd floor, highlights Paranormal Day which is held every May 3rd. Paranormal Day is a day for all those who believe in paranormal activity to share experiences all around the world. This display highlights some of the paranormal books that are available in the library. We would also like you to share your paranormal story with us. Stop by the library and write a brief note about a paranormal experience you have had.

The third display located on the 5^th floor of the library highlights The Dust Bowl was a time of drought for many US states that had previously enjoyed economic boom with the cultivation of wheat and grazing of cattle. When the drought began in 1930 many farmers were pushed off their lands when huge dust storms covered their farms in feet of dust that swept off the plains. This display highlights the history and timeline of the Dust Bowl. It also provides information on items that the library owns on the history of the Dust Bowl.

The three displays will be available through the end of May.

Share Your Tales of the Paranormal - Paranormal Day May 3

Paranormal Day – May 3, 2014   

The Lewis J. Ort Library presents a new display “Sharing Haunting Tales from Frostburg and Beyond”. Paranormal Day is a day for all those who believe in paranormal activity to share experiences all around the world. The display highlights some of the paranormal books that are available in the library. 

 

There will be a place for you to share your own paranormal experience with others. Stop by the library to view the display and share your paranormal story.
