March 10 - Celebrate Irish-American Heritage Month with Traditional Celtic Music
The Lewis J. Ort Library is pleased to sponsor Greg Latta as he plays traditional Celtic Music on Tuesday March 10 at 12:30 pm on the Main (3rd) floor of the library in celebration of Irish-American Heritage Month.

New Library Displays - March 2019
The Lewis J. Ort Library is pleased to present several new displays for March 2019.
The first display, located on the 5th floor, is celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss. The display highlights both his most famous characters as well as his advertising artwork he did during World War II. The display also contains information on some of the resources we have in the library on Dr. Seuss.
The second display, located on the 4th floor, celebrates the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867. The display also highlights the steps Alaska took to become the 49th state. The display also contains information on some of the resources we have in the library on Alaska.
The third display, located on the 3rd floor, celebrates Irish-American History Month. The display highlights the Great Hunger, which forced many Irish to leave Ireland and immigrate to the United States around the late 1840s and into the 1850s. The display also contains information on some of the resources we have in the library on the Great Hunger.
The fourth display, also located on the 3rd floor, has information about March Book Madness. There are also books that are in the running for March Book Madness that are available on the 3rd floor for checkout.
All displays will be up through the end of March.

New Library Displays for March
The Lewis J. Ort Library is pleased to present two new displays for March.
The first display, located on the 3rd floor of the library, celebrates Irish-American Heritage Month and highlights the culture of Irish-Americans. The second display, located on the 5th floor of the library, highlights the Great Hunger of Ireland. Due to the Great Hunger there was a large influx of Irish immigrants into the United States. This display highlights the causes and history of the Great Hunger as well as some resources the library offers on this topic.
The second display, located on the 4th floor of the library, highlights the start of the "Spanish Flu' Epidemic across the globe. The "Spanish Flu" is a misnomer as Spain was the first country to openly report about the epidemic. Other countries did not report about the epidemic due to the news blackout during World War I. The "Spanish Flu" infected over 1/3 of the population of the world, and killed between 20 and 50 million people. The display highlights information about the epidemic as well as resources the library offers on this topic.

The Ort Library is pleased to present several new displays for the month of March.
First on the 3rd floor, the library has a display of some of the books that were selected for March Book Madness. There are also books selected for March Book Madness that are available to be checked out for your reading pleasure.
On the 4th floor, there are two displays. The first honors Tom Clancy as part of Irish American Heritage Month. Tom Clancy was a prolific writer whose first book was The Hunt for Red October, which was made into a movie starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin. His many books have been turned into movies and video games.
The second display on the 4th floor, honors the 100th anniversary of Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity. Several books about Einstein and his theory are showcased in the display.
The last display, located on the 5th floor of the library, honors Women's History Month. The display highlights the four women who served or currently serve on the United States Supreme Court. The display highlights the careers of Sandra Day O'Connor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elana Kagan.

Two New Library Displays for March
The Ort Library is pleased to present two new displays for March.
The first display, located on the 3rd
floor (by the main entrance) focuses on Irish American Heritage Month. This
year the focus is on singers with Irish-American or Irish heritage. Some of the
singers include Bruce Springsteen and Katy Perry. The display also highlights
some books from the library’s collection on Irish music.
The second display located on the 5th
floor of the library highlights the 25th Anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska on March 24, 1989. The
spill released more than 11 million gallons of crude oil into Prince William
Sound. The display shows how the spill spread for the first week through Prince
William Sound. Additionally, the display highlights the heavy cost wildlife paid
during the spill.
The two displays will be available through the
end of March.
