The Ort Library Welcomes the Class of 2022!!

The Ort Library would like to welcome the Class of 2022 to Frostburg State University!! The library has been welcoming students at Preview with information about the library. The library is a great place to study, we have both quiet floors and group study floors. In addition, the library has computers, printers, scanners, and individual and group study rooms!

Portable White Boards and White Boards in Group Study Rooms

The Lewis J. Ort Library is happy to announce that there are 3 portable white boards for use on the 2^nd, 3^rd, and 5^th floors of the library. The white boards are on wheels and can be moved around on the floor. The white boards should already have dry erase markers and an eraser. If these are missing, please stop by the Reference or Circulation desks.

The library is also pleased to announce that white boards have been added to each of the study rooms in the library. There are 2 group study rooms on the 2^nd floor and 3 groups study rooms on the 5^th floor. Each of the white boards in the group study rooms should already have dry erase markers and an eraser. If these are missing, please stop by the Reference or Circulation desks.

We ask that you only use dry erase markers on these white boards.

Group Study Rooms and Individual Study Rooms Available

The Ort Library would like to remind students that we offer five (5) group study rooms for groups of 3 or more people. Each study room is equipped with a computer and large screen monitor. Three (3) group study rooms are available on the 5^th floor and two (2) group study rooms are available on the 2^nd floor. 

To access a group study room, please stop by the Circulation Desk on the 3^rd floor of the library to check out a key. Your group can utilize the group study room for two (2) hours. At least three (3) members of your group must come to the Circulation Desk to check out the key.

In addition, three (3) group study carrels are available on the 5^th floor of the library. These are open computers/tables for use and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  

Finally, just an additional reminder that four (4) individual study rooms are available for student use on the 5^th floor of the library. These rooms are always unlocked and you do not need a key to access them.  The individual study rooms can be found at the end of the floor closest to the Chesapeake Dining Hall. If you take the elevator to the 5^th floor, you would go to the left and they would be at the end of the stacks. The rooms that are available for use are 514(A), 515, 519(G), and 522(C).

Fall Brings ORIE 101 Students into the Library

For the past 5 weeks the Lewis J. Ort Library has been welcoming new freshman students into the library during their ORIE 101 sessions. You may have seen groups of students walking around the library looking for books, group study rooms, and other areas of the library.

The ORIE 101 classes that come to the library get a basic introduction to the library and then they complete a scavenger hunt to “get to know” the library a little better. The students are very competitive because there are prizes for the team that has the most points.

Below are some of the questions the ORIE 101 students are asked.

• How many scanners are located on the 2^nd floor?
• How many individual study rooms are on the 5^th floor of the library?
• What types of resources does Special Collection hold?
• How many people do you need to use a study room and how long can a group use a group study room for?
• If you were looking for books on the topic of Sports and Recreation, in which call number range would you most likely find information on that topic?
• If I want to renew my books online, what link on the library’s home page would I select?
