8th Annual March Book Madness Starts Today - March 1st

The Lewis J. Ort Library is pleased to announce our 8th Annual March Book Madness Tournament. Each of the tournaments held during the past six years have been a success because of students, faculty, and staff who vote to select our Champion. Just like the NCAA Basketball Tournament held during March, the Ort Library holds its own tournament that will crown one book the Champion of March Book Madness.

Voting for the Round of 64 begins today March 1 and ends March 4.

Again, this year there is just one way to vote, via the library guide that has been created. To vote for each category, click on the tab for that category.

The guide can be accessed via the following link: https://libguides.frostburg.edu/march-madness21

This year we looked back to our past seven contests. We took 64 books from 2014-2020 that made it to the Sweet 16 (minus the winners) and are going to have them compete once again to give them a second chance. This year the brackets do not have a theme and will just be named Bracket 1 - Bracket 8.

Just like in the NCAA Tournament, we will start out with 64 teams (books). Student, faculty, and staff votes will determine which books move onto the Round of 32. Once the 32 books are selected, additional rounds of voting will take place to get to the Championship title game. The Champion Book will be crowned on Friday, April 2, 2021.

Some of the books for March Book Madness will also be available for you to check out on the main floor of the library (3rd floor).

This year our categories are focused on authors from around the world. As part of this the author and a book they have written will be paired together during the competition. You will vote on author/book as a pair. Through a tough and rigorous process, the library staff narrowed down the list of books to eight books in each category, for a total of 64 books.

The 8 categories are:
  • Authors from South America
  • Authors from Europe
  • Authors from North America
  • Authors from Australia/New Zealand/Pacific Islands
  • Authors from Africa
  • Authors from Ireland (in honor of Irish American Heritage Month)
  • Authors from Central America/Caribbean
  • Authors from Asia

Just like in the NCAA Tournament, we will start out with 64 teams (books). Student, faculty, and staff votes will determine which books move onto the Round of 32. Once the 32 books are selected, additional rounds of voting will take place to get to the Championship title game. The Champion Book will be crowned on Friday, April 3, 2020.

Some of the books for March Book Madness will also be available for you to check out on the main floor of the library (3rd floor). Just look for the display stand near the March Book Madness display case.
