FSU Government Resources for Teachers

Not only does the FSU Lewis J. Ort Library Government Documents area have a lot of physical resources for students, professors, and community members, but it also has many weblinks with useful information. Did you know that the Library has many free government resources for teachers and students? The 2nd floor Media area will be featuring a bulletin board showcasing some of these. The sites can be found listed on the Libguide created by our Government Documents Librarian, Lisa Hartman at  http://libguides.frostburg.edu/gov-topic.

Under “Children’s Government Resources” there are two extremely helpful websites, the first being Kids.gov.  This website contains a collection of children's government web sites managed by USA.gov, as well as a wealth of information and resources for teachers! The website includes free reproducible lesson plans, activities, and worksheets for teachers to use in their government/history classrooms on all sorts of topics. One displayed on our current bulletin board is “How A Bill Becomes A Law” with examples of some of the lesson plans and activities available for use. The website includes resources for K-12.

Another website listed is GovDocs for Kids. This page contains a list of free children's government resources compiled by the American Library Association's Government Documents Round Table. On it, teachers can find lesson plans and activities on Federal, State, and International Government, as well as have the opportunity to contribute some of their own to share. The Federal site provides lesson plans and activities for the incorporation of the Arts, Language Arts, Social Studies, and STEM.
