Library Hosted Reading April 17

The Lewis J. Ort Library was pleased to host a reading on April 17 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm by students in the English Department.

Students read poems that they have written, poems by favorite authors, and/or works of fiction.

Featured Online Resource - Human Rights Web Archive





This week’s Featured Online Resource is the Human Rights Web Archive, from Columbia University (http://library.columbia.edu/indiv/humanrights/hrwa.html). The Human Rights Web Archive is a “searchable collection of archived copies of human rights websites created by non-governmental organizations, national human rights institutions, tribunals and individuals” (http://hrwa.cul.columbia.edu/). The website is searchable by URL, Subjects, Places, or Languages. Columbia University has been collecting these websites since 2008.

Featured Online Resource - On Guard Online.gov


A popular news topic lately has been the latest major company or organization to have been hacked, leaving customers and clients concerned about their personal information being stolen.

OnGuardOnline.gov is a website managed by the Federal Trade Commission who works with many other federal agencies to provide information to help you protect your online accounts and personal information.

Use Research Tools Like a Librarian! Open Sessions April 14-16



Do you face challenges finding vital research information for your class paper or project, thesis, dissertation, article or book you are writing, or that workplace report you need to submit?  Dr. Seán Henry will host three library guidance sessions to help you with these, whether you are a student, faculty or staff member.

When:

  • Mon., April 14: 3:30 – 5 PM; 
  • Tues., April 15: 6 – 7:30 PM; 
  • Wed., April 16: 3:30 – 5PM

Where:  Ort Library Instruction Classroom (Library 316 – just inside the main entrance to the left) 

Light refreshments will be served!

These three sessions are open to the entire FSU community.  Even if you are a seasoned researcher, you might want to consider stopping by to see what’s new, because some library tools you may have relied on for the last decade -catalogUSMAI and Research Port - will be replaced soon!

The 90-minute open sessions will cover:
  • Using expert tips to develop effective search strategies
  • Finding books, eBooks, articles, and more using the library discovery tool OneSearch
  • Navigating databases in your discipline at Databases A-Z
  • Citing, saving, and managing  the sources you find with personalized database tools
  • Creating links to database articles and journals without login glitches
  • Manipulating Google Scholar to locate full-text research articles

Receive a variety of tips related to smart money management, and become familiar with CashCourse, FSU’s self-paced online money management workshop.
Brown-bag lunches welcome. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

An online guide and display will be available with resources and tools to help you with your personal finances.

The nationwide Money Smart Week scavenger hunt is underway.  Use your iOS or Android smartphone to participate and enter for a chance to win a $500 Apple gift card.  This link will give you more information.

March Book Madness Champion 2014 is...

Congratulations to Ort Library's 

March Book Madness Champion


The voting for the Champion has ended.

In the end it came down to a contest between: 

Lord of the Rings and To Kill a Mockingbird.

In the end only one book can be crowned Ort Library's March Book Madness Champion for 2014.

The winner of this year's Championship is:  
To Kill a Mockingbird

March Book Madness - Championship!!



Congratulations to the TWO books that have made it to the Championship “Game”!!

After starting with 64 Books, we are now down to our final 2. 

The books moving onto the Championship “Game” are:

  •  Lord of the Rings 
  • To Kill a Mockingbird.

Voting for the Championship “Game” 
 April 1 through April 3.

Again there are three ways to vote:
  • Paper ballots will be available in the library by the March Book Madness display case.
  • A Library Guide has been created so that you can see the brackets and vote online. The guide can be accessed via the following link: http://libguides.frostburg.edu/book-madness
  • On the Library Guide, there is a PDF bracket that you can fill in and e-mail to tmmastrodonato@frostburg.edu
